Scientific Appraisal of Rudraksha (Elaeocarpus Ganitrus): Nano Silver Synthesis

Introduction
The field of nanotechnology has been looking for strategies to eliminate the ever lingering therapeutic challenges. The biosynthesis of nanoparticles has shown promising results especially in nanomedicine, specifically silver nanoparticles. Silver has been for ages known as an antimicrobial agent. Therefore, silver nanoparticles hold a special place in science, technology and medicine. Research on the Five Mukhi (five faced) seed of the plant called as Rudraksha (Elaeocarpus Ganitrus Roxb.), has revealed the presence of silver nanoparticle in them which makes it useful in therapeutic practices.
The reason for using the beads of Rudraksha over other plant materials is its property of being non-degradable. It was observed in the research the same bead is capable of giving innumerable extracts, can withstand being boiled repeatedly. The results of using varying concentrations of silver nanoparticles as well as Rudraksha have been mentioned below.
Rudraksha and Silver
Elaeocarpus Ganitrus Roxb, commonly known as Rudraksha are mostly grown in the Himalayan regions of India and are well known for their numerous healing properties. This can be explained by the presence of silver nanoparticles in them and has been used by practitioners of Ayurveda since ages.
The Rudraksha is known to have tranquilizing and thermogenic properties and are used to treat various neurological and physiological disorders.
Rudraksha extracts have been proven to be superior to other plant extracts as they are non-degradable in nature and can be used multiple times withstanding repeated boiling, while most other plant materials degrade after being used for the first time for synthesis.
So far, the studies regarding Rudraksha and Silver nanoparticles have either focused on the medicinal aspects of Rudraksha or the synthesis of the silver nanoparticles using a variety of plant extracts. The research validates the antibacterial properties of Rudraksha Beads Extract (RBE) and Green Silver Nanoparticles (GSNPs) that helps to open up new avenues for the potential use of Rudraksha in the medicinal field.
Rudraksha beads have enormous medicinal and therapeutic properties and boost the antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles.
The flavonoids and silver nanoparticles present in Rudraksha, gives it the antibacterial and antimicrobial effectiveness.
The inherent ability of Rudraksha to withstand multiple extractions along-with it’s the innate medicinal properties makes Rudraksha an exploitable resource for instant, never-ending and astute biosynthesis of green silver nanoparticles. The application of the extracts of the sacred bead in the field of nanotechnology as well as antimicrobial sciences has substantiated the enormous potential of green synthesized silver nanoparticles as a Nano-medicine.
In between all the controversies and concerns regarding the safe usage of silver nanoparticles in treatment of human diseases and health care, the introduction of Ayurveda via green synthesis of silver nanoparticles has been showing promising results and therapeutic benefits with reduced side effects.
